We had a wonderful and historic opening night reception, media event, and fundraiser to celebrate Dana as Alabama's first artist with special needs selected to have her own art gallery exhibit.

What better place to have made history than at Huntsville's most treasured location, and in the grand, new building at the Botanical Garden. Thank you HBG for your vision and passion to do the right thing!

Musicians greeted guests in the lobby, cake and beverages wooed them into the Carriage House, and one-night only art sales took place in the Grand Hall. Sold 62 paintings raising over $8,500 that went to the nonprofit Inside Out Studio where Dana paints weekly.

Two hundred guests attended. Civic leaders First Lady Eula Battle, Mary Scott Hunter (R) running for State Senate in District 7, and Linda Meigs (D) running for State House in District 20 were present. Two honored guests, also barrier breakers, joined in the celebration. Dr. Sheila Nash-Stevenson, the first female African-American in Alabama to earn a PhD in physics, and retired Major General Paulette Risher, the first female general officer to command a special operations unit in the U.S. Army.

Thank you to the Huntsville Botanical Garden for their vision and the opportunity to begin to break down some barriers!

Dana's 20-painting exhibit was a great example of the notion that persons with disabilities can do amazing things if given the opportunity...and that they are a vital part of the community.
